The manual surgical instrument consists of two - small and narrow - rotating cutting blades with spring-loaded handles. The blades of the scissors cut as the sharpened edges pass each other. The narrow working part does not limit visibility in the operating field, which is very important during e.g. hand, eye, mouth operations,.

Scissors vary in:

1/ the shapes of the ends of the working parts (serrated or smooth blades),

2/ angles of inclination of the cutting parts or handles (straight, bent, double bent),

3/ Material of the blades (steel or additionally along the blades - hardened with sintered carbide),
