The manual surgical instrument consists of two parts and, depending on the type, has ring or spring handles. It has short jaws, serrated on the inner gripping part to eliminate slipping of the needle and thread. Narrow jaw eliminates the risk of needle breakage during crimping. The vices have a self-locking system (pawl/lock).

Needle holders vary in:
