A handheld surgical instrument designed to be used as a lever or knife when extracting a tooth or impacted roots. It is a one-piece instrument consisting of a handle, shaft and working part.

It works on the principle of a wedge. Bilateral levers and periotomes have a central handle.

Luxators and periotomes have flattened working parts and do not have the function of balancing, but of cutting the periodontal ligaments (like a knife) holding the tooth or root.

Levers, luxators and periotomes vary in:

1/ inclination angles of working parts (straight, bent inward, bent outward, right side, left side),

2/ shapes of working parts (lever - knurl spatula, luxator and periotome - flattening, smooth or serrated),

3/ operation (lever - balancing, luxator and periotom - undercutting like a knife),

4/ handle patterns (pear, corkscrew, rings, cuts, coating),

5/ handle material (steel or polypropylene resistant to high temperature during sterilization),
