The handheld orthodontic instrument is designed:

1)  as a long, slender instrument with two crescent or fork-shaped (positioner) tips. It is a double-sided instrument with a centrally located handle.

2) as a compass (marker) with a scale from 0 to 20 mm and a knob for locking the arm. The instrument may differ in its coating and the angle of inclination of the working part (straight or bent tip).
