A hand-held dental instrument with a sharp, hollow point, usually rounded and semi-circular in cross-section. It is a two-sided instrument with a centrally located handle. The assortment of curettes consists of a set of tools of different sizes and different bend angles. The working part has one sharp edge for smoothing the surface of the tooth root and the other smooth edge for contact with soft tissues. The working parts are a mirror image of each other.
